Heran.. Sekian lama di rak buku, baru tahu kalau saya punya buku semenarik ini hehe

Meski bukan penggemar berat teori konspirasi, namun saya menyukai bumbu-bumbu konspirasi dalam berbagai sejarah dunia. Itu yang membuat imajinasi berkelana kemana-mana. Dalam Seven Deadly Wonders, Matthew Reilly meramu antara imajinasi dan fakta sejarah dengan sangat meyakinkan. Untuk itu saya tidak menyebutnya sebagai teori konspirasi melainkan resep cocok untuk cerita yang mendebarkan dari awal hingga akhir.

Ya, mendebarkan, terus menerus. Tidak salah jika Library Journal menyebut karya ini "A nonstop rollercoaster ride". Temponya cepet banget. Ala-ala allegro (tanda tempo cepat) atau bahkan vivase (cepat dan girang). Tak salah jika Reilly mampu menyuguhkan petualangan Indiana Jones ke dalam versi tulisan, namun kali ini bintangnya adalah Jack West Jr yang misterius.

Kembali ke urusan teori konspirasi, poin yang diangkat tidak jauh-jauh dari persaingan antara Gereja Katolik dengan Kelompok Freemason sebagaimana telah banyak diulas di novel-novel bertema teori konspirasi lainnya. Namun yang menarik Reilly melihat dari sudut pandang lain: tujuh keajaiban kuno dunia. Bagaimana Amerika Serikat yang seringkali dianggap sebagai markas Kelompok Freemason telah membangun replika tujuh keajaiban kuno dunia di bangunan-bangunan ikoniknya. Patung Liberty, yang dibangun oleh pemimpin Freemason Prancis, Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi, adalah replika dari Patung Colossus of Rhodes. The Woolworth Building di New York sangat mirip dengan bangunan Lighthouse of Alexandria. Fort Knox dibangun dengan dasar desain Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. Namun di jantung pemerintahan Amerika sendiri, The White House, dibangun taman bertingkat yang sangat indah: The Rose Garden.

Dan yang membuatnya terasa sempurna adalah: MAP!! Peta!! How I love adventure completed with map! Meski ada bagian-bagian yang terasa lebay khas hollywood, but this book is heaven for architecture, conspiracy, and adventure lover. 

And I wonder wether the one who put the golden Capstone in it's place on 2006 was Mr. Hu Jintao :-D
